Plastic Bag Waste

Plastic Bag Waste

One thing I thought was really interesting was that in Delhi, India since cows are considered sacred that they roam free which at first sounds like a positive but because of this they roam to garbage dumps where they consume lots of trash and plastic. The plastic blocks their digestive tract and the animals slowly starve to death. So even though they are sacred and are free, they die because of the massive trash problem.

Legislation is the number one way things will change within our society, so it only makes sense to ban plastic bags all together. I thought that the unanimous decision to ban plastic bags 10 to 1 in San Francisco is really compelling because it represents when people come together and truly believe in a cause then real change can happen.

The amount in which plastic bags are consumed is extremely high but this is only due to the fact that most people have easy access to them. If the plastic bags weren’t being produced at such high rates, then people wouldn’t have the opportunity to use them. This is why the only scale that would fix the problem of plastic bag consumption is the companies and corporations producing the products. This comes from government regulation on how many plastic bags could be produced in accordance with how much the environment could handle and in return would mean that the production of the bags would decrease. Watching the video and understanding now that no bags are good for the environment because of how indestructible they are, shows that the plastic bag production would have to come to a complete halt. Plastic bags are not misunderstood, the man that was interviewed is just out to produce as many bags as possible to make as much money as possible.

Interesting Fact: According to National Geographic in 2019, "Half of all plastics ever manufactured have been made in the last 15 years."
